A strong 2s squad despite the absence of last year's player of the season, Matt Allen, and club top scorer Neil Fitch, amongst others, began the season in fine style. Despite knowing very little about the opposition confidence was high after a great finish to last season and boosted by a 100% record at fortress Epilepsy Centre. Bromleians were well organised and enjoyed the better of the opening ten minutes. However, the 2s soon imposed themselves and were creating chances, with Paul Thomas going close on a couple of occasions. The lead eventually came midway through the first half. Nick Lancaster's perfectly weighted cross-field pass was taken in full stride by Nick Smith before slotting home. The lead was doubled minutes later. Nick Smith turned provider as he flicked on a long throw into the box, and Dave Cadogan took full advantage of some hesitant goalkeeping to open his account for the season.

Bromleians started the second half strongly but it was Challoners who got the third goal. Rob Wickenden picked out Paul Thomas unmarked on the edge of the penalty area and he had time to turn and finish. To their credit Bromleians refused to give up, and enjoyed their best spell of the game as the tie drew to an end. However, they were unable to create any real chances - one speculative effort saw Jamie Williams produce an acrobatic save for the cameras.

A fine performance all round. Challoners were well worth the 3-0 scoreline.
